About My European Vacation In a Motorhome

posted on 5 February 2012

In 2011, I went for a 10-day vacation with a rented motorhome. The first thing you need to know: they are not as big as they seem in rental brochures! Everything is really tiny and it takes a day of getting used to. Also, mine did not come with a shower, so I had to take showers in the communal bathroom at the motorhome park. If you don't mind these, you will surely have a lot of fun! Being able to take your bed and all your stuff with you by just starting the car is great! And it feels so very American and adventurous. If you can get a motorhome with a shower, I say go for it. It will save you a lot of money when traveling and give you a whole new perspective of the country you are visiting (I was in Croatia and Slovenia). Just make sure to check where you can park it, because in most parts of Europe you can do so in so called Auto-camps. If you don't respect that, you may end up with a fine up to $200. In Auto-camps, there is a fee to use a spot, but you also get to use the showers and restaurants - so that fee is a smart investment into a more comfortable stay.
